Potential headwinds for home improvement stores?
Reuters reporter Nicholas P. Brown featured HundredX data in a May 2025 piece examining troubling signs for the home improvement industry, and what it implies about the health of the U.S. economy.
Brown referenced forward-looking future purchase intent data from HundredX, which showed a YoY drop in April for top home improvement retailers. The drop was particularly evident among lower-income customers. Combined with a decline in actual spending data, the future purchase intent drop points to potential consumer uncertainty and signs that a rebound in the U.S. housing market is still a ways off, Brown noted.
